Did you ever try to lead a stubborn mule? They put on the brakes and that is that ! They often change their attitudes; very friendly one time and the next nope don't want attention today.
Some years ago Dale went with Mary, Florian and Matt to a adopt a burro for our farm That was on a Saturday and when he came home he told me that Sunday Mary and family were going to go and get a burro for a pet.
In the corral were a bunch of horses wild for adoption and burros that they had captured in Nevada living on the land and were trying to find homes and a good place for them, so he said there was a baby and her mother there and no one wanted them. Anyway we had to be approved. We had to draw out a barn place and size of pen and outside pen and so forth so eventually we got the mama and her baby.
I named the mama one Jenny and her baby Ruthie. I would lead Ruthie around with her halter and walk with her. Jenny, the mama, would guard her baby often turning herself so we could not touch the baby, but eventually Ruthie grew and became friendly.
The Mama is still standoffish but much better She remembers the helicopters we think rounding them up and probaly was scared to death but still protected her baby, They have had a good life with us compared to roaming on the land trying to find something to eat.
They have quite a calling voice especially to Dale wanting the grain, or if they hear the lawnmower going wanting some green grass to be fed to them They are quite the pair and funny sometimes too.
Love,
Ruth and Dale, from Wisconsin
